Fonne Magnetic Materials (formerly Soton New Materials), was established in December 2013 . The company has consistently adhered to its innovation strategy, centered on ' cerium magnet technology ' , engaging itself in the R&D, manufacturing and sales of rare earth permanent magnets with ultra-high cost efficiency. With dual bases in Hangzhou Bay and the High-Tech Zone in Ningbo, Fonne Magnetic Materials is expanding towards an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons.
For years, the growth of the industry had been constrained by the scarcity of praseodymium-neodymium, a critical component in third-generation rare-earth permanent magnets. Cerium magnets presented a promising solution to industrial stagnation, given the abundance of cerium in rare-earth mines and its high potential for dual-phase performance. This breakthrough could effectively address resource constraints and technical hurdles and thus, significantly expand the scope of application and economic value of rare-earth permanent magnets.
In 2015, Fonne Magnetic Materials, in collaboration with academician Li Wei of the Central Iron and Steel Research Institute and his team, successfully transitioned cerium magnet prototype products from the laboratory to mass production, thus becoming the world's largest cerium magnet manufacturing base. When this revolutionary cerium magnet was launched, it quickly gained those innovative customers ' trust and loyalty. It was hailed as the ' model of industry-academia-research-application integration ' for achieving the ' triple jump ' : from scientific research to experimental develop ment and to industrial market application.
In 2024, Fonne Magnetic Materials, leveraging material-level innovation technology, its vertically integrated rare-earth complete industry chain, and a range of patented technologies supporting expanded applications of rare-earth permanent magnets, has officially entered the inaugural year of ' Twin-Trio Ultra-Gain Strategy ' , a year of high-quality development. Strategically positioned with the mission to be the ' Global Model of Ultra-Gain Rare-Earth Permanent Magnets ' , Fonne Magnetic Materials has implemented its ground-breaking Multi-Tier Gain Technology. Currently, over 120 million motors have been equipped with Fonne ultra-gain rare-earth permanent magnets, a standing proof of the company's ultra-high cost efficiency models benefitting industrial enterprises and consumers worldwide, applied into electric vehicles, electric appliances, electric wind turbines, industrial equipments, robots, electric bicycles and electric scooters.
